Topic: Cobra CIR 2000 A Vs E Penbex Radio

Can I install the released EU version on the Cobra driver on the US version in order to be able to listen to European broadcast radio stations (50 KHz steps vs 200 KHz)?

Thanks a lot

please let me know when it's done

Sincerely

Igal

I just need some time to make the patch. Unfortunately I do not have much time at the moment... Too much work
Once its done, you can load it just like a regular firmware update.

Dear William

Thank you very much for your reply.

What would it take for you to do the patch and if you do it, how can I load it to my radio?

Hi,

You can not easily do this.
Because your device is limited to loading just the USA version it will reject the Euro version.
I doubt there is a hardware difference though. Most FM chips can do all regions which means its just a bit in some routine that is set or not.
I have the latest firmware of both models and I can probably make a patched version.

William

CIR 2000 has two models A (for America) and E (for Europe). The main difference between them is the FM radio frequency steps. (50 KHz for E and 200 KHz odd for A). Does anyone knows if you can switch from the A model to the E model by changing the firmware? (I was told by Cobra that I can't do it but it is hard for me to beleive that the hardware is not the same so there should be a way to change it by firmware.)
