Topic: Rad.io app does not work

Hello Anthony,
sorry, but I have to clarify at first: William is here the master of the LL universe.
I am one of all the LL users only. Because I do not have a smartphone, I may have a bit more time for the radio business here.
The direct predecessor of my mobile phone had a rotary dial.

Anthony, is it possible, that you list ten of the "not  working" radio (iHeart) stations here by name, preferred by you?

This may be a start. It may become more later on.
I will check those stations and I will tell you about my findings.
(I remember I already touched this business almost two years ago.)

Best regards, Nobi

My great thanks to Penbex and Nobi for maintaining the server to keep these older radios working. It is difficult to keep up to date with all of the changes in radio stations, programming formats, and streaming URL's and types. But just as a suggestion if it is possible, an updated menu via a flash of the software could include the ability of the radios to correctly decode stations owned by IHeart, which use a Shoutcast stream. Thousands of stations having all types of great program formats (News, Talk, Music, etc) use it, mostly located in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and they are among the most listened to stations in the areas they are available. Right now some stations decode correctly and other's are a hit or miss since they modified their stream in 2020. Most radio brands like Ocean Digital and Grace Digital can decode these stations or can be added by the user. One example is WBZ Newsradio 1030 Boston, MA which is IHeart and can be easily heard on my Penbex Radio. Adding a feature like this would make these radios even better.

One other suggestion would be to add radios that were affected by the shutdown of the Reciva server in September 2020 to the new database. At the site https://swling.com many posts are about the Reciva shutdown and how listeners have attemped to restore their radios, with little success. A new database using Listenlive would give a new life to these pricey radios.

But again, these are suggestions, and thanks again for keeping the database.

What about creating a "Beta Version" first?
All people who would like to take a chance, could try it at their own risk. (me too...)
Flashing a BIOS could also be dangerous... but sometimes it's necessary.
No risk no fun. Right?
I would love to see a new clean firmware with some (new?) working apps and without HTTPS issue.
And of course I will make a donation when it's going to be released.

It is no problem to create a cleaned up version..
The problem is more that every time a system is flash it can cause issues with the flash memory. (eg. read the info on timebomb in these devices)
Due to this I would not create a firmware just for removing icons/apps.
There might be another issue, related to playing https streams, that might give a good reason to make a new firmware.
Lets think a bit about the pros and cons and see if we can come up with more pros than cons.

W.

Are there any plans in the future to release a new "cleaned up" firmware without all non working apps.
I found out, that most apps do not work anymore on my machines.
Therefore the old apps and the many icons are quite useless...
What do you think about this?

Hi,

I created the rad.io part by looking at the calls and responses the official rad.io app was sending out and receiving.
These calls have changed and no longer give the results that are needed.
I would have to pull apart the most recent rad.io app and see what it is doing, if we can get authentication to work and if streams are still playable. A fairly time consuming task.

BR,
William

Hi there.
I would like to use the Rad.io App with my ARNOVA Radio.
But everytime when I open it and choose a subject, my device crashes and freezes!
Can anybody check this please?
Thanks for helping.

Larry
